Hi Guys,
These days my attention was turned to Dashboards as i am assigned to design some dashboards for our project. My manager has good experience on tableau and want cognos look and Feel similar to tableau.
Note --Explore Cognos Rave visualization in Cognos 10.2. It has very good graphical functionality. Cognos offers Workspace which is similar to Tableau dashboard. Where first create individual charts save them as reports and then use those charts for creating dashboard.
Quick word on tableau-- Tableau has a client software called tableau desktop where you design the reports and then publish them on server. Not like cognos reports studio which is web based. Here web is for sharing reports. No framework modeller in tableau. It has datasource creation wizard which detects joins and hierarchies very easily in data and you can specify joins easily. similar to FM
For visulization it has offline mode where it takes data to your local machine in a file and then you can play with it. Suggested when working with development database with lower volume of data. You can then publish this source online or you can connect to live db once online. With live db performance is obviously slow but havent compared to cognos or other reporting tool
Lastly -- The visualization and ease of creating it is very very impressive. If you are a BA or data analyst you will be impressed on what you can do with it. The main selling point is it allows you visualize data very well.
So below are some sample dashboard which come with tableau and what i like about them you can implement similar in Cognos Workspace and using Rave visualization.
